Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in width overall consisting of a shield blazoned:  Azure (Dark Blue), a gauntlet in base holding a wreath of laurel Or interlaced with two quills saltirewise of the second and Gules.  Attached below the shield a Gold tripartite scroll inscribed "OPTIMI SUSTINENT OPTIMOS" in Dark Blue.

Symbolism
Dark blue and scarlet are the colors traditionally associated with Personnel Services units.  The gauntlet and wreath signify the Battalion's mission and underscore the unit's motto.  The quills, crossed for strength, denote the unit's capabilities and responsibilities.  Red stands for courage and sacrifice, gold for excellence.  The motto translates to "The Best Support The Best."

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 6 February 1995.
